With over 25 years of experience in consulting and leadership, Tyrome ‘Ty’ Smith stands as a seasoned expert in understanding and navigating human and organizational dynamics. His career has been marked by pioneering initiatives and transformative engagements across various sectors. Ty’s impact spans the development of innovative educational programs, including a pioneering effort for the Department of Defense. His work extended to coaching and mentoring product development teams within an internal incubator, fostering innovation and excellence. In addition, he has provided support to several organizations either as faculty or entrepreneur-in-residence; including Bowie State University, University of Maryland Innovation Extension Program, StreetCode Academy, and Digital Undivided – the last two are dedicated to supporting founders of Color. Beyond his contributions to academia and entrepreneurship, Ty has left an indelible mark as a sought-after workshop presenter. His expertise ranges from unraveling unconscious bias to catalyzing business model innovation, influencing audiences globally. Recently he was nominated a Fellow of the AK Rice Institute for the Study of Social Systems. He recently directed a group relations conference dedicated to understanding the intersection of representation and democracy that bridged theory with practice in the pursuit of societal and organizational evolution. Recently appointed to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Advisory Board, Ty contributes his strategic insights to shape national policies and programs. A dedicated scholar, Ty holds a BA in Speech Communication from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania and an MA in Human Communication from Howard University. He also holds executive certificates from UCLA and UC Berkeley. Ty’s career trajectory reflects a deep-rooted commitment to understanding human systems dynamics, shaped by early experiences as a police officer and his transformative work with adolescents in therapeutic environments.
